This has been one sucky bummer of a summer(& fall!)

I know this is going to sound like the “back in my day things were different” old guy rant but man, I swear this has been one crappy summer(& fall!) of epic disappointment due to weather(lack of), injury & bad luck. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it never blows much in the summer, but this season seems different.  It started early this spring, it was cold but we  hardly a wave day come through, we had some wind but no swell, no Luna Pier bomber days, no 3 day Maumee Bay North blows. It continued into late spring, the annual Hatteras trip was cancelled due to injury! We haven’t missed that trip in over 20 years. Then when we were supposed to be in Hatteras I jacked my ribs/internal stuff. I still haven’t shaken the bruise & discomfort of it(nor have I rode since then-I’m not sure how the harness is going to work without killing me). Thats not so bad you say?  You might be saying to yourself “what else do you got for us you big pansy?” Well then the construction of Central & Secor  roads cranked into full speed grinding the shop to a halt! There have been many days when the intersection has been closed & usually busy Central Ave is a ghost town. Wow, it can’t get much worse, can it? How about the complete lack of wind for weeks on end maybe the monsoon rains that we had or how about the oppressive heat. Well, to top it all off I ruptured my Plantar Fascia tendon running a 100 meter dash against my 12 year old(I was up big when it let go). I got to wear a groovy walking boot for 4 weeks & I’m not supposed to do anything until 7/31! What else could go wrong? All the bad karma, juju, vibes have had to of been used up, right? With that said bring on the fall! And I’m not missing next opportunity for wind I’m taking, jacked up or not!

    1. not even loaded & is there any wind? Sensors looking light……..hard to motivate with cold temps.

    1. Gary already put in!!! He always wins! His motto is “1st in, last out” I think he has taken both titles for multiple years in a row!

Season opener. Called it right with a 5.0m my arms didn’t last long. Time to shape up.

      1. Did score a solo session in a 100 acre field I have access to, right by my house. Close to home and even closer to a fridge… uh… I mean heat…

        1. that’s the problem with summer sailing, having to lug a huge cooler all over the place to use while you wait for the really important item …wind

          happy holidays all!

  1. Gary has just assumed the lead for the “Last in the Water” title! 6.0 & cold water with good wind- reported from this AM! This might be the winner, the temps are dropping big time after today!

    1. I do believe Gary is the winner, anyone who tops him for the title of last in the water has earned it!

  2. I know this isn’t going to stand(unless the bitter cold is here for good) but as it stands now, I do believe I’m the “last” person in the water!!!! I have 3 witnesses!

      1. probably won’t but the northern secret spot might work, if it hasn’t blown out, my source is checking in the AM. wink, wink, nudge, nudge!

          1. LP is the talk now, I might still opt for NSS if the water is up. I’m thinking later 2ish

          2. The Ryans, Pete & myself flirted with death and………WON!!!!! Uneventful fun day! No carnage just smiles.

  3. …….lets see if I get it right this time! A big Thanks to our wind crew – John & Pete on Veterans Day!!!!! Not only did they serve our country but they also are some damn fine wind commandos!

      1. I’m fairly confident that I don’t know how to ride anymore! On a bright note I’ve logged 25 straight days at the shop! I might go for the record…….

    1. I got a report from Lost Peninsula that it was mud, so I’m guessing boobies was also????? No report from the CI raiding party yet.

      1. Raiding party success! Started on 9m kites and Brad on a 5.5. We came in for 7’s at first break. Wind died. Rode a little longer–done

  4. Todays breakdown: A raiding party & maybe Brad(Brad to the super duper SS?) are heading east to the hallowed secret spot, there are some of us stuck on our side looking to get a ride in & hoping the water doesn’t blow out. Be careful, hypo is in the cards today!

    1. Just got the report from Gary, too shallow(& getting worse) to score a northern ride…….head east or to the MB pond!

  5. MB sucked, if you’re wondering . Pete, Ryan & myself, only Ryan hit the water for a feeler, feeler sucked so we went home…..
